　2018年10月14日 国際バスケットボール連盟（以下、「FIBA」）事務総長 パトリック・バウマン氏が逝去されました(享年 51)。ここに故人のご生前のご功績を偲び、心からご冥福をお祈り申し上げます。

(On 14 October, 2018, Mr. Patrick Baumann, Secretary General of FIBA passed away at age of 51. Here, we will remember his achievements and express our deepest condolence and sympathy to his family and all of FIBA family members.)

　訃報に接し、以下のとおり、三屋裕子JBA会長のお悔やみの言葉をお伝えします。

　本日、国際バスケットボール連盟 (FIBA) 事務総長のパトリック・バウマン氏が急逝されたとの報を受けました。あまりに突然のことで、非常な驚きとともに大きな悲しみを禁じ得ません。この訃報に接し、日本のバスケットボール界を代表いたしまして、心よりご冥福をお祈りいたしますとともに、ご遺族の皆様に対しお悔やみを申し上げます。

　故人は、世界のバスケットボールの中心でご活躍になっていたことは言うまでもありませんが、日本のバスケットボール界にとっては恩人であり、良き理解者でもありました。ガバナンスや強化・育成、男子リーグの統合など、いくつかの課題に面して混乱していた当時の日本のバスケットボール界に対し、組織の在り方、ガバナンスを親身になって教えてくださり、そのことが日本のスポーツ界を改革する礎となることを教えてくださったことを、私たちは決して忘れません。

　日本バスケットボール界は故人の生前のお心遣いに感謝し、そのご遺志を心に刻んで、これからも一丸となって前進してまいります。

“I was informed that FIBA Secretary General Mr. Patrick Baumann has passed away. I am very shocked and deeply saddened to hear such unexpected news. On behalf of Japan Basketball, I would like to send our heartfelt condolences to his wife and his children.
Needless to say, Mr. Baumann has shown great success in international basketball, but he showed great understanding towards Japan Basketball and he was our greatest benefactor.
He has warmly taught us the way of organization and governance during the time that Japan basketball was facing problems such as governance, development of national teams and integration of men’s league. It has become the cornerstone of restructuring the sports society in Japan and we will never forget what he has taught us.
Japan Basketball family appreciate all his thoughtfulness and we would keep moving forward with his desire and memory in our heart.
May his soul rest in peace.”
